Special Instructions for International Applicants

International students are welcome to attend UIC in the summer as visiting Summer Session Only students.

In response to the COVID-19 situation, all 2020 summer courses will be offered online. (Check here for COVID-19 related updates.) To enroll in online courses, international applicants can follow the same eligibility requirements and deadlines as domestic applicants when submitting a Summer Session Only application. The only special documentation that you will need to provide for your application is proof of English language proficiency (see below).

If you wish to continue your enrollment beyond summer at UIC, you will need to submit a regular undergraduate application or graduate application in addition to the Summer Session Only application.

English Proficiency Requirement
As an international applicant, you will need to provide information about your English proficiency for summer admission. You will be able to upload an English proficiency test score report (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE) when you fill out the application form.

There are exemptions to this requirement, which you can find by checking the International Requirements for each country.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses
If you are interested in taking noncredit ESL courses only, you do not need to complete a Summer Session Only application. For more information, visit the Tutorium in Intensive English or contact them by e-mail at tutorium@uic.edu or by phone at (312) 996-8098.
